Mom & Me Our Story

As the youngest of three, I never envisioned myself as the primary navigator caring for my elderly mom at this stage of our lives. Yet, here I am, a member of the so-called "sandwich generation," balancing the demands of raising my teenager, supporting my older husband and the unexpected responsibility of caring for my elderly mom. This new chapter began abruptly in early 2024 with the passing of mom's husband, propelling me into a role I hadn't anticipated but have grasped wholeheartedly, even with the few wobbles along the way.

UPDATE

Update May 2025

Since Mom moved closer to me, her wish was to always maintain her independence in her own apartment, and I was fortunate to find her a lovely place just five minutes from my house. However, since that initial move, we've navigated a series of significant challenges. Mom experienced two falls, and our area of North Carolina was then ravaged by Hurricane Helene, just a few days after her 92nd birthday.

The recovery and the deeply traumatic aftermath were completely overwhelming to manage, no electricity for two and a half weeks and no clean water for almost two months. Adding to this, Mom suffered another TIA, a mini-stroke. After her recovery from her last fainting and fall incident all her doctors strongly advised a move to assisted living.

I'm sharing my experiences finding the most suitable living solution for Mom on my page, Senior care Services.

Since March 2024, Mom has been hospitalized six times, so you could say I'm gaining a fair bit of experience navigating her care. My hope is that by sharing our journey, I can help you be a step or two ahead, making your path a little smoother.
